A Strategy for Accelerator-Based Neutrino Physics in the USA
نویسندگان
چکیده
We outline a strategy for next-generation neutrino physics experiments based on beams from accelerators in North America. This strategy is based on the mounting evidence in favor of the large mixing angle solution to solar neutrino problem [1], which implies that in addition to measurement of sin 2θ13 and of the sign of ∆m 2 23, measurement of CP violation in the neutrino sector is a realizable goal provided sin 2θ13 is not too small The strategy is to begin with a new detector, 20-30 kton of liquid argon, designed to make best use of the NUMI beam currently under construction at FNAL. Then, after new measurements have made the optimal path clearer, we anticipate choosing among options for neutrino “superbeam” upgrades at BNL and/or FNAL as well as for second new detector of 100-200 kton.

Medium-Term Stability of the Photon Beam Energy of An Elekta CompactTM Linear Accelerator Based on Daily Measurements of Beam Quality Factor
Introduction In this study, we aimed to assess the medium-term energy stability of a 6MV Elekta CompactTM linear accelerator. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first published article to evaluate this linear accelerator in terms of energy stability. As well as investigating the stability of the linear accelerator energy over a period of several weeks, the results will be useful for esti...

متن کاملNeutrino Cross Section Measurements for Long-baseline Accelerator-based Neutrino Oscillation Experiments
Neutrino oscillations are clear evidence for physics beyond the standard model. The goal of next-generation neutrino oscillation experiments is to find a non-zero θ13, the last mixing matrix element for which we only know an upper limit. For this, next-generation long-baseline neutrino oscillation experiments require an order of magnitude better sensitivities. In particular, accelerator-based e...
متن کاملPhysics at an Upgraded Proton Driver at Fermilab
The accelerator-based particle physics program in the US is entering a period of transition. This is particularly true at Fermilab which for more than two decades has been the home of the Tevatron Proton-Antiproton Collider, the World’s highest energy hadron collider. In a few years time the energy frontier will move to the LHC at CERN. Hence, if an accelerator-based program is to survive at Fe...
